Our Philosophy
Philosophy of Spicket Valves & Pumps Ltd.
Nowadays, the operating costs of Oil Rigs have escalated enormously and, generally speaking, drilling contractors receive no remuneration for periods of non-operation.
Spicket Valves&Pumps Ltd. was set up to substantially improve the percentage of operating time that mud-pumps are available for use. Best results are obtained by increasing the reliability of all systems on mud-pumps and decreasing the time it takes to carry out maintenance on the systems.
Such improvements can usually also substantially improve the safety of personnel carrying out maintenance work by eliminating - as far as possible - dangerous operations such as hammering and lifting heavy / awkward components.
The first stage of Spicket's philosophy involved careful assessment of time taken to carry out routine and emergency maintenance and replacement of parts.
The second stage consisted of designing modified systems that are very quick & easy to use and maintain. With painstaking preparation of new design modifications using the very latest 3D Computer-Aided Design Systems, potential problems can usually be eliminated well before the manufacturing stage.
In particular, Spicket studied very carefully the actual operating loads on Piston Rod connections, Liner Restraining systems and, in particular, Valve Cap and Strainer Cap systems. Most were found to be woefully inadequate.
As a result, it became apparent that many manufacturers have not been adequately assessing the difficulty of maintaining mud-pumps on oil-rigs but have been trying to make their products look more "sexy" with little consideration being given to easier / safer maintenance procedures and long equipment life.
Spicket V&P Ltd. have, however, spent the necessary time on these subjects.
